There's a story going around South Lake Union, but a spokeswoman for Vulcan, Paul Allen's development company, says it's just an urban legend. That aside, the story that the neighborhood's streetcar line now under construction was called the South Lake Union Trolley until the powers that be real...

The new South Lake Union Streetcar in Seattle is being called the SLUT. I don't know what to add to that, or I really even need to. . .

Seattle City Council wants to keep the Sonics

Council vote commits Sonics to arena lease

The council vote eliminates any potential for Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to negotiate a buyout of the lease with Bennett, which was an idea first raised by the Save Our Sonics fan group pushing to put Initiative 93 on the ballot in Seattle next February.

So, the Seattle City Council took a vote today to show their support behind keeping the team in Seattle at least until the current lease is up in 2010 (though the mayor had already indicated that he would be doing this).

Of course, this is the same council who's president stated last year that the Sonics leaving Seattle would have close to zero cultural impact. Here's to at least a few years of ugliness until the Sonics leave. . .or hopefully stay in Seattle.

Seattle Weekend

I went up to Seattle over the weekend to visit friends. I took the Bart down to SFO after work on Friday evening and enjoyed the convenience of the whole set up.

Eric and Chie

週末、友だちなどに会うためにシアトルに向かう。金曜日の夕方の最後のミーティングが終わったらBartに乗って空港に向かう、ダウンタウンから空港まで25分ほどで付く、これはかなり便利。

Seattle should be a lot more convenient when the light rail is finally completed from the airport to downtown (and hopefully beyond).

シアトルも空港からダウンタウンまでの電車が2009年にやっと完成するらしいから、楽しみ。

However, for this trip, I got a rental, I was hoping for a small midsized Japanese car, but I got a medium sized Ford SUV (or maybe it was a crossover). Chie and Eric from Amazon were kind enough to let me stay with them, so I got to spend the next hour trying to find Eric's house which is ten minutes from the airport within a thick, thick fog.

今回は車をレンタルした、比較的運転がしやすい車を期待していたが、実際はちょっと大きめのSUVだった。Chieとエリックが泊まって良いと言ったので、すっごい霧の中空港から10分ほどにあるエリックの家を探す。1時間ぐらいかかった。

Uncle Joe and Aunt Mutsu

I spent the rest of the weekend visiting family and friends. I met my Seattle grandparents and went over a brief recap of the last forty years. I then went way north to Lake Stevens to meet the Worsts who I stayed with while in high school (Shawn and I were in the same class). I probably should have thanked them for not killing me during the five years I lived in Seattle, I'm sure the temptation did surface at some points. Saturday evening was spent at Hans and Nadya's watching "An Inconvenient Truth," the movie still isn't showing in Japan, so I just bought the DVD.
シアトルの祖父母に会いに行きここ40年ぐらいの話をした。その後シアトルの北、45分ぐらいのところまで走っていく。水と山が大好きな僕としてはアメリカの中でやはりシアトルが一番好きな街だと再確認した。ここで育ったって事もあるだろうし。
