First NBA season in over twenty years that I won't be following. . . Let's see if college basketball really is that much more exciting.
"This is the second-most exciting indoor sport, and the other one shouldn't have spectators."
-- Dick Vertlieb, Seattle SuperSonics first general manager, on pro basketball
I own a copy of this book that I bought used at amazon.com a few years back.Being that it was out of print, I paid more than I should for the book, but I felt it was worth every cent I paid electronically. The Blazers have got to be one of my least favorite teams in the NBA (though with Nate McMillian coaching the team and Martell Webster and Brandon Roy, they are candidate number 1 to be my favorite team if/when the Sonics leave Seattle) but this has got to be one of the greatest book written about the NBA (Tall Tales is another great book).
I've wanted to get the book as a present many times, but I just don't feel comfortable giving someone a used book as a present. I'm sure doing so is within the realm of acceptable behavior, but I'd rather get a brand-spanking-new copy if I was going to be handing it over. Problem is of course that the book is out of print.
I belive that the Breaks of the Game is one of the MOST popular basketball books out there and basketball has got to be pretty popular. With David Halberstam's recent passing perhaps they might reprint some of his older titles, but isn't there some other way to get out of print books printed?
