It was raining cats and dogs in the morning, but things were pretty calm by the time I met up with Gen to have lunch at Pita the Great. After lunch I headed to the Apple Store in Shibuya where the iPod Genius checked out my iPod Classic, declared a mechanical failure and replaced it with a new one.
BTW, Gen is having a heck of a difficult time with his Movable Type blog since Dreamhost has shut down his mt-comments.cgi. There's a grand plan being hatched to fix this, but since I'm doing the hatching any other ideas from other more knowledgable folks (WINK! WINK!), would be appreciated.
And the pitas were once again magnificent. Though the streak of people going to Pita the Great and declaring that the guy needs staff continues.
Lunch was a chicken and egg rice bowl (known as the "parent-child bowl" in Japan, seriously).

goya seemed to be in mid-week form even though it was still Monday morning. Monday lunches are already pretty important because they can set the tone for the whole week, but with the way goya was pacing himselves where we went to lunch was going to have a huge on a lot of things.
The orginal plan was to get dipped ramen at Yasube's on Akasaka dori. We headed over that way and almost wandered into a sushi joint but made it to the ramen joint, only to find a line. We then changed our plans and headed towards Texas for steaks.
We stuck our heads into a Tonkatsu place on the way, but the plume of cigarette smoke made it easy for us to decide to stay on course and go to Texas.
Mondays' at Texas are Hamburg Steak days, and the special was a double order of hamburg steaks on rice with sauce. After looking at the other options (all meat. . .lots of meat), I settled on the special.
Good Times.
Went out to Nogizaka with Atsushi and Goya to sit down for some lunch. We had some hamburg steaks at the Steak House Hama.
It was an inspired choice, a great way to end the working week. We had a great "meating," with the only downer being the heavy smoking in the after meal lounge.

fumiakiy just HAD to have his Tendon (Tempura rice bowl) today, so we braved the winter rain to go down to Akasaka and Tenshige. Mr. Japan Tobacco (YUJI) and I had Kakiage-don's and Atsushi and fumiakiy had their Tendon. The mix was pretty oily, but it was overall a tasty experience. We went by Starbucks on the way back to the office. To prepare to get drenched. And drenched we were. . .
Just some random Tempura related trivia from Wikipedia:
"Batter-coated deep frying was introduced to the Japanese by Portuguese missionaries during the 16th century. The word tempura derives from the Portuguese missionaries' custom of eating fish during Lent due to the Catholic proscription against eating meat during this period: in Latin, "ad tempora quadragesimae", meaning "in the time of Lent"."
I've heard the theory that the name Tempura comes from the Knights Templar also, perhaps the holy grail is in the batter. Or perhaps more important:
"Western chefs frequently include tempura dishes on their menus but seldom with 'authentic' results. This largely stems from a misunderstanding about mixing the batter which, in classic cookery must be beaten until homogeneous. Good tempura batter is mixed with chopsticks, but only for a few seconds. This leaves numerous lumps in the mixture and results in the unique tempura structure when cooked. Also crucial is that tempura batter be made freshly, with ice-cold water, in small batches."

Jun had mentioned that "there's a new Daoxiaomian place in Akasaka across from the Nubra store," wishing to kill two birds with one stone, I set out to see what was up.
The noodles were thinner than the Daoxiaomian that I am used to, and the soup was a bit different also, but it wasn't bad. Just a different type of Daoxiaomian from what I am used to.
When I was handing over my food tickets, I asked for no coriander on my noodles. The waitress asked me in Chinese if i didn't want coriander. I replied back in Chinese, but I was left wondering why she asked me in Chinese.
