Speaking of dope

最近大麻の特集やニュースを結構テレビで見るけど、最近ではテレビタックルや日曜日の夜のフジテレビなどに取り締まる立場の人たちだけが参加して一方的な議論で。

みんな勘違いし照るみたいだけど、大麻は悪い
大麻はもっと悪い物に繋がる。

などと言っている。

It seems that marijuanna is become a bit of a problem amongst the young folk in Japan and I've been seeing a few news shows on TV in Japan approaching the problem.  Every time they only have folks representing one side of the argument out on the tube expounding their views. Views that are pretty much:

I don't know what you think you're smoking, but marijuanna is SUPER BAD.
Marijuanna is a gateway drug that leads to even worse drugs.

お酒も飲まない、タバコも吸わない、つまらない僕だから当然大麻も吸ったこと無いけど。何かおかしいと思う。
I'm a boring guy, I don't drink and I don't smoke cigarettes, and I've never smoked any weed either.  But, I feel there's something missing here.

実際大麻を医療用に使用して良いとしている国と地域はある。
実際にモルヒネはアヘンだけど医療用につかっているんだし。

As we all know there are countries and regions that approve the medicinal use of marijuana.  Morphine which is made out of the same ingredient as heroin is also available for medicinal purposes.

大麻は中毒性がたかいと言っても、それはタバコも酒もそうでしょう。医療用や合法の薬物だって中毒になることもあるわけだし。ただ、大麻を違法とするんじゃなくて、規制をちゃんとするのが大事じゃないのかな？

Marijuana might be addictive, but isn't that the same with cigarettes and alcohol?  There are plenty of folks that get addicted to prescription medicine also.  Isn't managing marijuanna for medicinal purposes an option instead of an outright ban.

別に大麻を合法にしてくださいと思っていないけど、一方的な意見や見解を紹介するのだけではなくて、もっとちゃんとした議論をしてほしいし、ニュース番組ならちゃんとした情報が欲しい。ただでさえドンドン我々は馬鹿になっているのに
I'm not saying that marijuanna needs to be or should be legalized.  It's just that I don't feel that the facts surrounding the use of marijuanna are really being presented at all in these shows.  We Japanese really don't need anymore help from these in our rapid descent to idiocy.
