On Pop, Soda and Band Aids

I think there was a QotD a while back that simply asked "Soda or Pop?" When I moved to the US, I often heard people try to start up conversations with people they just met with this one liner. I was pretty sure that we could NOT use that QotD in Japan, but would have to come up with a Japan orginal like,"which can you throw further an angry cat, or a cooperative dog?" However, I found this article today, regional variations on what people call Band Aids in Japan.

今日発見したばんそうこうの秘密？何か、まわりの人は全員バンドエイド使っているからたいして盛り上がらなかった。

From top to bottom on the right hand side are: Bansoukou (basically the Japanese word for Bandaids), Band Aids, Sabio, Cut Bands, Reve Tapes, and Kizu Band (Kizu = Injury).

Unfortunately, everyone around me was from Osaka or Tokyo where we use "Band Aids." Not that exciting?

東京出て来て「キズバン」って言ったら「何それ？」と言われて、困ったことがあります。。。
「キズバン」以外の呼び方知らなかったので。いまでも思わず言ってしまいます、「キズバン」。

小さいとき「ばんそうこう」って言ってたけど、周りがみんな「バンドエイド」って横文字つかうから無理やり「バンドエイド」って言うように変えた記憶が。。。懐かしいわ。でもその頃は「バンソーコー」っていう英語だと思ってたんだけどなぁ。。。

確かにサビオって言う事もあります。北海道だけってのは意外。

僕はバンドエイドでしたね、でバンドエイドを日本語にしたのがばんそうこうと勉強したけど。バンドエイドはブランドだから、正しいのはadhesive bandageなんだよね。

It might not be exciting, but it is always interesting to see how languages compare like that.

バンドエイドよりも地方色がでるのは「ドロ警」だと思うな。めちゃめちゃ日本限定の遊びだからDiceわからないかもしれないけどね。。。「泥棒と警察」の略で単に泥棒役と警察役の鬼ごっこなんだけど、都会は「警ドロ」、ちょっと離れると「ドロ警」、さらに田舎に行くと「ドロ巡」（泥棒と巡査）になる。と私の勝手なリサーチ結果。ちなみに私の生まれ育った町田市は「ドロ警」です。周りにきいてみて。
